Welcome to the ESA web site
The
European Society for Agronomy (ESA) was launched in 1990.
Its main
objectives are:
- to promote
the science of agronomy,
- to link
those interested in agronomic research and development within Europe,
- to promote
a European journal for agronomy and a newsletter,
- to encourage
continuous training opportunities in agronomy for scientists and technicians,
to cooperate with organisations with similar aims in other fields of
science.
The ESA is for agronomists, researchers and teachers who are concerned
with basic and applied science in agronomy : the relationships between
crops, soils, climates and agricultural practices, and between agriculture
and the environment. It is a forum for scientists and users of research
results to exchange information and experience and for developing collaborative
programmes.
ESA has a scientific committee of 3 members each in charge of one of
the following scientific divisions:
| 1. |
Plant Systems Biology: The cultivated plant in a field |
|
email |
| 2. |
Field Scale Agroecology: The cultivated field as an ecosystem |
|
email |
| 3. |
Cropping Systems at Farm, Regional and Global Scale: the Cropping System in its embedding systems |
|
email |
ESA has national representatives
in many European countries, and strong and friendly relationships with
the American Society
of Agronomy (ASA).
Every two years, ESA organises a scientific
congress (Paris-F, 1990; Warwick-UK, 1992; Padova-I, 1994; Veldhoven-NL,
1996; Nitra-SL, 1998; Hamburg-D, 2000; Cordoba-E, 2002; Copenhagen-DK,
2004; Warsaw-PL, 2006; Bologna-I, 2008). In 2000, the congress had been in conjunction with the third
International Crop Science Congress (ICSC-3). The coming congress will be held on 2010 in Montpellier, France. The 2012 congress will be held in Finland.
Conferences and workshops on specific subjects are co-organized by ESA,
which also supports scientific networks, such as the "crop modelling
network".
Started in 1992, the European
Journal of Agronomy has a scientific board of ESA members. It is
published by Elsevier
Science and it is abstracted into several publications such as Field
Crop Abstracts (CAB). See the impact factor.
The ESA newsletter,
published twice a year, conveys information within the Society.
ESA is managed by an Executive board
of 4 members (president, past-president, president-elect and executive
secretary).
